NCsoft Launching Gamer DNA into Outer Space with 'Digital Time Capsule,' Could 'Resurrect Humanity'

Richard 'Lord British' Garriott When Ultima and Tabula Rasa creator Richard Garriott ventures into space this fall, he will deposit a "digital time capsule" on the International Space Station that packs the digital DNA of certain Tabula Rasa (PC) subscribers.

Dubbed Operation Immortality by publisher NCsoft, the capsule will contain "the digitized DNA of select video game players and space aficionados" along with copies of all active Tabula Rasa characters as of September 2, 2008.

C&C: Red Alert 3 Beta Begins

The multiplayer PC beta for EALA's strategy title Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 has kicked off, allowing the first 2,000 folks that registered beta keys to begin playing.

"We are starting the activation process with a very small pool of testers and will work to ramp this number up to thousands and thousands of Comrades around the world on a weekly basis, likely multiple times a week throughout the rest of this month and August," EALA noted on the game's official site.

New Crysis Warhead Screenshots Appear

Several new screenshots of Crytek's next sci-fi shooter Crysis Warhead have popped up over at PC Games, offering more examples of the game's fire and explosion effects.

Nintendo Reports Big Numbers; Q1: $996M Profit

On the strength of Wii sales, Nintendo's first quarter profit increased 34% compared to a year ago, the company announced today.

The April - June period was good for a $996 million profit on revenues of $3.9 billion. Nintendo shifted 5.2 million Wii units, along with 3.42 million copies of Wii Fit and 6.42 million copies of Mario Kart Wii during the quarter. Total Wii sales now stand at 29.6 million.

Sony recently announced it sold 1.56 million PlayStation 3 consoles during the same period, while Microsoft shipped 1.3 million Xbox 360s.

Compared to the same period a year ago, sales of the Nintendo DS dipped by forty thousand units. It still sold 6.94 million units, and worldwide sales are now at 77.54 million.

For the entire fiscal year, which runs until March 2009, Nintendo expects to earn $3 billion on revenues of $16.8 billion.
